| Freedom flight Expedition
- in 2003
two South African glider pilots Ricky de Agrela and Alan Honeyborne made their route through Nepal. Their mission was to break the world record on this type of Aircraft by flying the longest route covering 50 countries. Avia Club Nepal shares the pride with these two pilots on this mission. We also believes that this was an opportunity to establish a goodwill relationship with
the international air sports clubs for the future benefit towards development of
Air Sports in Nepal.

Setting Out World Record
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the French man, Maurice Herzog, conquering Mt. Annapurna 1st, (8090m), Mr. Jan Bem Honza, a Czech national flew over Mt. Annapurna 1st on 28th September 1998 in his ultralight aircraft.
This weight-shift aircraft was equipped with a four-stroke engine and oxygen for the pilots. A computer was installed to record the aircraft and pilots condition at the optimal height. The Czech expedition team was able to break the world record by flying highest in the world on this type of aircraft. Avia Club Nepal shared the joy working closely with Victorious Expedition Team. |

Cross-Country
Pokhara-Bharatpur, Meghauli, Pokhara
On the 14-16 of February 2002, a Russian and Nepali team had a cross country sporting event. The flight, which covered a little over a hundred kilometers, was a one-way trip with two landings en-route through international air space. Pokhara-Bharatpur-Meghauli-Pokhara were the sectors covered. During this trip, the team covered vast terrain between the 8000-meter high Annapurna Mountains and the jungles of the National Chitwan Reserve. After that the Team successfully returned to its base in Pokhara, Nepal.
| Skydiving Over Pokhara
Mr. Claudio from New Zealand, a professional skydiver has become the first person to make a free-fall from an ultralight over Pokhara. The skydiver went up on an ultralight which climbed to 7,000ft above Pokhara, and once the pilot switched off the engine he jumped off freefalling for nine seconds before opening his parachute.
This is probably the most exciting dive I ever had in my life, first the gliders were so tempting for me to resist as I am the free-faller. Also when I dived from up, the feeling is so good; especially I could see the great Himalayas upside-down, swirling and dancing with me. I think Avia Club Nepal should start inviting and encourage more free-fallers into Nepal which can be like a hot cake.

"Pokhara is a welcome relief from the constant hubbub of Kathmandu. It is a small town in a beautiful setting next to a lake and with the imposing Annapurna range of mountains in the background (when it is clear enough, this time of year it is very hazy). I was met at the airport by Stefan Shrestha and Deepti Gurung of Avia Club Nepal and taken to their HQ." [ Detail ]

| World Tour On Cessna - 2004
Mr. Robert Gannon flew in Nepal on his own Cessna aircraft in October 2004. His venture is the world tour on this small aircraft. Mr. Gannon was sharing with us not only food and accommodation, but also information about flying in world tour and new ideas of development of air sport activities in Nepal. |
Chitwan Mahotsav
On 8th of January 2005, two gliders flew in Bharatpur on invitation by Narayangarh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On this event I would also like to remind you of the cross-country flight in the year 2003 Pokhara-Bharatpur-Meghauli-Pokhara.
As a whole this concept of taking part in Chitwan Mahotsav 2005 was inspired by the cross-country flight. It was just another unexpected response and warm welcoming we received there. Unexpected response in terms of inquisitive interest to fly on these gliders took us by surprise. We took up some passengers on our dead operating cost and lastly ended up not being able to fly all of them since our schedule to fly back was fixed. This also drew our attention towards how ultralight gliders can be useful in agricultural usage and jungle patrolling for the animals. |
